What was your experience In chicken farming.. did you benefit from the infamous fiasco?

 The dimension of chicken farming to some Kenyan farmers digs out painful memories that they would opt to forget. This is not your ordinary long documentary on how to be successful in chicken farming but it's equally very informative. Poultry farming is filled with so many conmen, charlatans, smooth talkers, and see the profiteers that have harvested abundantly from the lack of knowledge of farmers in this business opportunity making humongous profits.

 Where do most Kenyans go wrong? 

Kenyans are a highly forgiving crowd and so ready to jump into any glimpse of anything someone tries to sell to them that indicates how they can escape poverty. People invest big time, in the long run, they encounter a baptism of Fire. Misinformation is a very bad thing. Most people who are out to seek profit give you all these false information of how ‘“we have good quality chicks that are fully vaccinated”, only to find out later they were not. 

Every time you look around there's always a success story where buy a farmer started from a humble beginning and is now ripping big profits out of poultry farming, and on the other hand, some people have never benefited from this venture

My humble advice is that Kenyan farmers should thoroughly retrace their steps, open up your mind, and try to research as much as you can about the people we so call suppliers of day-old chicks and feeds. Remember failure has a bitter lesson but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Always make sure any person you're dealing with in terms of buying a parental stock or day-old chicks from is trustworthy. Don't only take them for their word but also do your own in research. Profiteers have a big nose of smelling desperation. Be warned! If you are in dire need of chicken any age, ranging from the old up to the egg-laying stock, always consult big institutions like Kenchic and others. Buy from sellers who can get the true history records of your chicken. Institutions like those have good breeds like Kenbro & others, and they do follow up for their farmers. This is very key for. Avoid being conned and doing long-distance chicken trade. Remember, when you outsource chicken from very far, your poultry stands a chance to pick up diseases and your stock may suffer from some compatibility issues due to environmental changes and stress. 

After you have truly known the source of your stock breed then ensure that you observe all the other guidelines and biosecurity measures that are required for every chicken farm. Ensure to disinfect and warm the brooder before the chicks arrive. Make sure that your chicken in a warm and in a  clean environment. Don't just buy feeds but by quality feeds especially for the first one month. 

Remember farming is business, do it differently, do it thoroughly be vigilant, make some money, and never allow someone to take advantage of you are lack of knowledge
